Beyond EPR: Transforming ELV Disposal into a Customer Experience Enabler
How Re Carma supported Hyundai dealerships and vehicle owners through a faster, simpler and more responsible end-of-life vehicle journey
Overview
Re Carma’s engagement with Glovis and Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) was established to support Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) requirements for End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs).
However, the opportunity extended beyond regulatory compliance. Re Carma recognised that an efficient ELV disposal process could also support Hyundai dealerships during the vehicle replacement journey—improving convenience for customers and helping dealerships progress new-vehicle conversations more effectively.
The Challenge
For customers replacing an old vehicle, purchasing a new car and disposing of the existing one are closely connected decisions.
Delays in vehicle valuation, documentation, payment or access to authorised disposal facilities can create uncertainty and interrupt the purchase journey. Hyundai dealerships therefore required a responsive, nationwide mechanism that could simplify ELV disposal while ensuring responsible and traceable processing.
The key question was:
How could Re Carma’s ELV ecosystem create value for the customer beyond EPR compliance?
Re Carma’s Approach
Re Carma developed an integrated support ecosystem covering more than 750 HMIL dealerships across India.
The model combined Re Carma’s operational capabilities with a nationwide network of partner Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facilities (RVSFs), enabling dealerships to offer customers a convenient route for vehicle valuation, documentation, payment and responsible disposal.
The Solution
Rapid Vehicle Valuation
A dedicated pricing engine enables faster vehicle assessments and quotations, reducing turnaround time and helping dealerships maintain momentum in customer conversations.
Prompt Payment
An instant payment mechanism facilitates timely settlement once commercial terms are agreed, giving vehicle owners greater confidence and supporting faster closure.
Dedicated Dealership Support
A central helpdesk and dedicated Single Point of Contact mechanism provide coordinated assistance for ELV requirements across more than 750 dealerships.
Documentation Assistance
Re Carma supports the resolution of issues that can delay vehicle disposal, including pending challans, hypothecation settlement, ownership changes and associated documentation.
Nationwide RVSF Access
Through COD trading and transfer services, eligible vehicles can be routed through the wider authorised RVSF ecosystem instead of being limited to Re Carma-operated facilities.
Responsible ELV Processing
Vehicles are channelled to authorised infrastructure for systematic depollution, dismantling and material recovery, supporting traceability and EPR fulfilment.
The Customer Journey
Vehicle Valuation → Dealership and Customer Support → Documentation Resolution → Payment → Authorised RVSF Execution → Responsible ELV Disposal
Value Delivered
The initiative created value across the ELV ecosystem. Vehicle owners received a faster and more convenient disposal experience through transparent valuation, documentation support and prompt payment. Hyundai dealerships gained access to a responsive ELV partner that helped reduce friction during the vehicle replacement journey, while HMIL benefited from a nationwide support model that extended its EPR engagement beyond compliance. By connecting vehicle owners, dealerships and the OEM with authorised recycling infrastructure, the model also enabled more ELVs to enter formal, responsible and traceable recovery channels.
From Service Provider to Strategic Partner
The initiative marked an evolution in Re Carma’s role from delivering a defined compliance service to addressing a wider customer need.
Re Carma does not attribute changes in HMIL’s vehicle sales or market position to this engagement, as automotive purchase decisions are influenced by multiple factors. Its contribution was to support HMIL and its dealerships with a responsive ELV ecosystem during a competitive period, while continuing to advance responsible vehicle disposal and EPR fulfilment.
The Way Forward
As India’s ELV ecosystem develops, Re Carma aims to create more than dismantling capacity. The focus is on building a responsive, traceable and customer-oriented circular ecosystem that connects vehicle owners, dealerships, OEMs and authorised recycling infrastructure.
Compliance established the relationship. Partnership expanded the value.
