  • Analyze polymer composition, moisture, ash, chlorine, sulfur, metals, and contaminants.
  • Verify compliance with feedstock acceptance specifications.
  • Support feedstock quality improvement and segregation programs.

Pyrolysis Oil Quality Control

  • Conduct routine and advanced analysis of pyrolysis oil to ensure compliance with refinery feed specifications.
  • Manage testing for:
  • Density, viscosity, flash point, calorific value
  • Distillation profile (ASTM D86/D2887)
  • Sulfur, chlorine, nitrogen, oxygen content
  • Bromine number and hydrocarbon composition
  • Trace metals and catalyst poisons
  • Release product batches based on quality requirements and maintain Certificates of Analysis (CoA).

Char & By-product Characterization

  • Perform analysis of pyrolysis char for carbon content, ash, fixed carbon, heavy metals, and environmental compliance.
  • Evaluate char suitability for downstream applications and disposal requirements.
  • Monitor fuel gas and other by-products as required.

Laboratory Management

  • Ensure laboratory compliance with ASTM, ISO, and internal quality standards.
  • Maintain analytical instruments as required
  • Develop SOPs, testing methods, calibration schedules, and QA/QC procedures.
  • Manage laboratory personnel, sample tracking, and data integrity.

Technical Support & Continuous Improvement

  • Provide quality data to operations and process engineering teams for process optimization.
  • Investigate product quality deviations and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support refinery qualification programs, audits, and customer quality assessments.

Qualifications

  • M.Sc in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Petrochemicals, or related field.

Experience

  • 8–10 years in refinery, petrochemical, polymer recycling, pyrolysis, or hydrocarbon testing laboratories.
  • Experience with ASTM methods and hydrocarbon product characterization preferred.

Key Competencies

  • Strong analytical and laboratory management skills.
  • Expertise in plastic, hydrocarbon, and carbon-material characterization.
  • Knowledge of refinery feedstock quality requirements.
  • Data analysis, troubleshooting, and root-cause investigation.
  • Quality management systems (ISO 17025 preferred).

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Accuracy and turnaround time of laboratory analyses.
  • Compliance of pyrolysis oil with refinery specifications.
  • Reduction in off-spec batches and quality deviations.
  • Laboratory audit compliance and instrument uptime.
  • Reliable characterization of feedstock to support sourcing team, oil, and char supporting plant performance.
